We arrived in Rockland, Maine last night for the start of the 2010 North Atlantic Blues Festival, an annual highpoint of my year. We hit the ground running — dinner at Cafe Miranda’s (oh my god is the food good here!), made new friends with Liam and his parents and started our hips moving back and forth as we were in the next building down from Rock City Coffee (and don’t forget the awesome used books — more on that below).
And you might ask Why are coffee beans and used books making your hips move? Well, Vince Gabriel and the Blind Albert Band were hosting his annual Blues Jam to open the festival up, and boy was the music good. But even better was seeing the faces and smiles (and yes, boots) that I haven’t seen in well over a year with all the health issues. It was a night filled with love and hugs, and that is priceless.
As the band was winding down, Phil looked in the window and believe it or not saw a copy of Windjammer Watching on the Coast of Maine written by his ex, Virginia L. Thordike with his assistance. MJ ran right in and bought the book, and it will have a very honored spot on our bookshelves.
As if the night couldn’t get better, on the walk back to the hotel, someone started calling me and I turned around and it was Alex from Culebra…who we will see more of today and tomorrow I am sure!
Today looks like a rainy start, which does NOT make me amused, but it is what it is…..
Some shots from last night.
